Job

Thu Oct 7 19:53:22 2004

This job has me playing with some interesting software and hardware, including apache, linux and php (so not much different from what I do at home then), but also kerberos, (open)ldap, active directory and blackboard (urgh), and finally, possibly censored.

Also under the header of 'geek' is what I have been working on recently. I started to write a Window Manager just after my last exam at Durham. However I've somehow managed to lose the copy in CVS, so stay tuned, the code is forthcoming (just not exciting).

Recommended reading: Author Unknown, on the Trail of Anonymous (amazon, salon, /.) - at times can drag, or appear to be presented in an unusual order, but generally an interesting book; A Scanner Darkly (by Philip K Dick) (amazon, imdb, philipkdick.com) - a very well written book, nominally Sci-Fi but not really, dealing with drug abuse. Hard to read soley due to the disturbing nature of the material; Full Moon (michaellight.net, amazon.com) - some beautiful photos of the apollo mission(s).

Right, I'm not allowed to do another thing until I've written an update, so here it is...

Got back from my hols; I've uploaded a load of photographs which I will provide a link to soon. Managed to dump my camera's memory onto a CD in a photo shop there which was useful; I took roughly 500mb of photographs in total.

Pompei in particular was excellent.

I got a job! I am a web developer for the University of Newcastle, working as part of the IAMSECT project, alongside some acquaintances from Durham University.
