Quake was originally released on a mixed-mode CD-ROM which had a data track (the game installer) and CD audio music, composed and produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Some pressings of the CD including the original had pre-emphasis set in the subcode of the audio tracks. Since awareness of the pre-emphasis flag was low, most CD rippers didn't handle it - until relatively recently. Therefore, a lot of the ripped CD audio for Quake in circulation are not correct.

This is an attempt to compile as much information as possible.
